Bishop Martin writes:

 

the Diocese of Newcastle is part of the Universal Church and seeks to equip Christian individuals and communities in every area to wait upon God, and to proclaim and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ". The marks of the Church will be: 

 

•       worship, evangelism and service present in each community 

 

•       commitment to learning and growth of discipleship 

 

•       connections made between faith and everyday life 

 

•        willingness to work in partnership with others 

 

•        listening to one another and honoring the diversity of Christian traditions 

 

•        giving and receiving beyond itself across parish, deanery and diocesan     and denominational boundaries, nationally and internationally 

 

•       showing more concern for the reign of God in the world than for its own preservation
